The 3 main browsers put to the test

What performance do the latest stable releases of Google, Microsoft and Mozilla browsers have when tested under identical conditions?

The CNet editorial staff asked themselves the question before putting the main browsers under pressure to reach a formal response on the question that torments those who have to choose which browser to adopt after the latest release announced in relation to Firefox 4.0, Chrome 10 and Internet Explorer 9.

The answer resulting from the CNet tests (partial and simply relating to memory, performance and speed benchmarks) is clear: Firefox 4.0 is the best. The results of the tests carried out are mixed, but in general it is the Mozilla browser that obtains the best placing ahead of Chrome 10 and Internet Explorer 9 which was born out of breath and was immediately forced to chase.

However, it is necessary to consider the partiality of the test, the definitive outcome of which relates exclusively to the tests carried out. A more complete and reliable judgment on browsers must in fact also include other aspects such as security, interface, available options and more. In terms of performance, speed and memory, however, the outcome is clear: Firefox 4.0 is the winner to date.
