Tweets and indexing in search engines

In the last decade, the use of Twitter, Facebook and Google+ has grown exponentially, as has that of Google, Bing and Yahoo to find the most interesting content around the web, but none have influenced anyone. For a few days, however, Twitter has profoundly modified the file that manages relations with search engines and now tweets can be indexed, just like real articles.

Attention to content - What is certain is that Twitter has all it takes to obtain excellent positions within search pages. In terms of optimization and SEO, the platform has the authority and visibility necessary to leapfrog the competition, but there is no form of control or oversight to guarantee its quality. Google itself has taken a position on the issue in the past: according to its indications, the robots.txt file should be used sparingly, especially in the case of automatically generated pages and content of dubious - or even zero - value.

Long-time friends - In reality, it is not the first time something similar has happened, on the contrary: in December 2009, Google and Twitter reached an agreement to index the contents of the latter, but the agreement expired in July last year and was never renewed. The Mountain View giant was thus forced to deactivate the Google Real-Time Search service, a particular search method that retrieved its results from Facebook and Twitter.
