Bluetooth 5 opens up to IoT
The Internet of Things era is arrived, thanks to the newBluetooth 5, which covers an area up to four times larger and boasts a capacity transmission eight times higher than Bluetooth 4.2 LE.
TheBluetooth Special Interest Group(SIG) has published the specifications of the fifth version of the Bluetooth standard which will arrive in the coming months.
With the update, the the speed and the quantity of data capable of managing up to quadruple it, while maintaining interoperability with existing wireless technologies.
According to ABI Research, by 2021, 48 billion devices connected to the Internet will be active, of which around a third are Bluetooth.
The fifth chapter of the Bluetooth network opens up the advent of the era of the Internet of Things: from the specifications of the upcoming version, it emerges that the new standard is was designed to develop a communication network that ensures, over short distances, sufficient communication bandwidth for data exchange between connected household appliances and other smart devices of theInternet of Things.
The new features they are the chip with a communication bandwidth of 2 megabits per second, synchronization and communication with devices up to 300m, a system that minimizes any interference with other wireless technologies such as LTE and Wi-Fi, all while maintaining the same level of energy consumption as previous versions.
Homes, increasingly smart, will be enriched by an IoT close to the needs of users, but not only. These upgrades mean that Beacons, devices that use Bluetooth technology to transmit and receive messages within short distances, also benefit.
