Technology and climate change

The Dutch bank ING presented the results of its latest report dedicated to technology and the environment during the COP24 in Katowice, the world climate conference, which aims to define the rules for implementing theParis Agreement of 2015. On the third day of work, the discussed new technologies and climate change.

With last year's project, Simple Hero, we began a journey that allowed us to activate ourselves towards more sustainable habits. attentive to the environment, but we know that it is possible always do more, especially in the technological field.

The meeting in the city Polish is It was an opportunity to discuss the study ""Technology, the climate saviour?"""". The study indicates that the technology has significant potential for reducing emissions, but will need for effective government policies to reap the benefits. In particular, it analyzes the extent to which technology can reduce energy-related CO2 emissions by reducing the demand for fossil fuels by 2050.

To give an example of how technology can having a key role in reducing environmental impact we can mention the IIOT. This is a technology capable of connecting industrial machinery, via the internet, to each other and to management apps. This type of product makes it possible to monitor, among other things, consumption in terms of energy and waste materials, thus to be able to act as best as possible in reducing waste.

In the study, Ing identifies a positive but realistic Positive Tech Scenario scenario for 2050. In this scenario, technology can reduce emissions by 64% by 2050, a result close to the emission targets set, while the 2030 objectives will not be achieved: it will take in fact time because new technologies are implemented as the global economy continues  to grow.
